Faced with major recruiting problems sparked by troop deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Pentagon has asked Congress to raise the maximum age for U.S. military enlistees from 35 to 42 years old.
The request, sent to lawmakers this week, would apply to all active duty branches of the military services, said Air Force Lt. Col. Ellen Krenke, a Pentagon spokeswoman, Friday.
How old is Sean Hannity??!! Early 40's? Raise the age limit to at least Hannity's age, because I'm sure he'd enlist if he could, and thereby be able to put his own life and limb on the line in support of the War on Terror he so passionately advocates others fight.
Hannity, O'Reilly Turn to Missing People & Celebrity Trial Stories
Have you noticed how The O'Reilly Factor and Hannity & Colmes have continued to get more and more heavily into missing people and celebrity trial stories? Right now it's the Alabama teen missing in Aruba and Michael Jackson. Segment after segment. What on earth have those type of stories to do with political issues? After all, both programs are political talk shows. But there's a method to their madness. Most news is bad for their boss, Bush: Social Security, Iraq, economy. So they certainly don't want to have segments discussing those issues now. Better to focus on missing teens and allegedly perverted pop stars. Mark my words, if the news starts turning better for Bush, the missing people and celebrity trial stories will vanish, so more time can be spend praising Bush.
Tonight OVER A HALF-HOUR was devoted to Hannity's "exclusive" interview with the groom and father of the runaway bride. I thought Hannity & Colmes was a political debate show? OK, this story has human interest, but OVER A HALF-HOUR? It's pretty obvious -- anything the program -- and Fox -- can do to detract its audience from the real issues -- Iraq, social security, medical care, extreme right-wing Christian belligerence -- will be done in a heartbeat. And to top it all off, near the end of the "interview," the groom revealed that his bride was still a virgin, she was waiting until marriage. A perfect Foxian morality kicker. And where is that bum Alan Colmes during all this? I guess playing with himself for the half-hour.
The entire first half hour of Hannity & Colmes earlier this week was Sean Hannity ostensibly conducting an interview of the buff but evil California governor. But it wasn't an interview, it was just a campaign commercial, as Hannity lobbed one softball after another and then let Arnold prattle on until he deigned to stop and let Hannity set him up with another phony "question." And Alan Colmes, how can you participate in such a farce, how can you allow such a sorry spectacle to take place in a program that bears your name? When's the last time Colmes was allowed to spend a half-hour lobbing softballs to a progressive politician? NEVER
US Weapons Inspector Finishes Work Without Finding Iraqi WMD
Wrapping up his investigation into Saddam Hussein's purported arsenal, the CIA's top weapons hunter in Iraq said his search for weapons of mass destruction 'has been exhausted' without finding any.
Nor did Charles Duelfer, head of the Iraq Survey Group, find any evidence that such weapons were shipped officially from Iraq to Syria to be hidden before the U.S. invasion, but he couldn't rule out some unofficial transfer of limited WMD-related materials.
Even though this is a CIA guy concluding this, it probably won't stop Hannity from continuing to make the claim.
The other night Hannity said that the insurgency in Iraq "has almost dropped off the map" since the January 31 election. Huh? Since January 31, 130 Americans have been killed in Iraq. Hundreds more have been wounded. And how many more hundreds of Iraqis have been killed? Facts mean nothing to Hannity, and no one ever calls him on it.
This is a great email I received from a visitor who read my essay condemning right-wing pseudo-Christians. She asked to be described as a Born Again Christian living in the state of Utah:
I am so glad that I stumbled on to your page. It has been my perception that the ultra-conservatives demonstrate anti-Christ attitudes and actions. It really came to my attention in the 1980s and I can only say that I have been very frustrated with Christian friends who should recognize the dogma being preached on Fox News but refuse to research from scripture what Fox News is really promoting.
I am a born again Christian who believes that an Anti-Christ or world dictator is in the future. It is my persuasion that the right wingers are laying the ground work that will lead to his successful grasp for power.
It is my persuasion that Mr. Hannity and Mr. O'Reilly are not Christians in the Biblical sense John 3:1:1-21. I know that we should not judge people but my LORD and God said that it is good idea to be a fruit inspector. Matthew 7:15-16 and Luke 6:43.
I have inspected their fruit and listened to their rhetoric and find it not in agreement with the Old Testament and the New Testament.
My question is this, how can we get the bona-fide Christians in this country wake up and smell the coffee? I am just enough of an optimist to believe that there is still time but it is growing short.
